Ethnic Heritage
About the Program

The PRC's Ethnic Heritage Preservation Program was developed from the African American Heritage Preservation Council, founded in 1997 through a partnership with Dillard University. The EHP promotes the preservation of our city's ethnic – especially African American – heritage through education, community awareness and advocacy. The program aims to recognize the many important contributions of ethnic groups to the development of New Orleans' culture, architecture and neighborhoods. Lectures, tours and other events spotlight these contributions.

Commemeration

Affiliated with the national African American Heritage Preservation Council, the PRC's Ethnic Heritage Program is developing a comprehensive database of sites important in local jazz history and is installing commemorative plaques on the former homes of early jazz greats. The PRC has restored two jazz landmarks, the former homes of Edward “Kid” Ory and Henry “Red” Allen.
