Known locally as Harry’s Ace, this three-story Classical Revival-style commercial brick building, designed by local architects Weiss & Dreyfous, is unique compared to the surrounding Uptown architecture. The building was constructed in 1925 as a Ford dealership called the Jefferson Motor Company, thus named since the building resided in Jefferson Parish at the time. Only a decade later, the property became the site of a bakery that operated in the building until 1953. In 1958, the building was leased by Harry’s Hardware which resided there for over 60 years. The building is currently undergoing renovation to create office space on the upper two floors and retail space on the first floor.
The project is facilitated by DM Steib, Verdad, Woodward Design + Build as the general contractor, Trapolin Peer as the architect, and Sherman Strategies. The project is utilizing Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits with the guidance of Ryan, LLC.
Beams & Brews offers a chance to view the ongoing construction, hear from the project’s managers, and enjoy free drinks.
