First Time Homebuyer Class

Monday, May 14 — Thursday, May 17

5:30 pm — 8:00 pm

at the Preservation Resource Center, 923 Tchoupitoulas St.

Considering homeownership? Emerge from this program prepared to tackle the home purchase process and meet the demands of owning and caring for a home.  The 12-hour course conducted by A Shared Initiative, Inc (ASII) in partnership with the PRC is certified by the LA Homebuyer Education Collaborative. It acquaints prospective buyers with the details of purchase contracts, insurance, fiscal fitness, budgeting, home maintenance, and more.

1) You must first register at one of the two locations:

Registration fee for ASII Members is $75 for an individual or $100 for a couple/household. The fee for Non-ASII Members is $100 for an individual or $115 for a couple/household. MONEY ORDERS WRITTEN OUT TO ASII ARE THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE FORM OF PAYMENT

2) Schedule your counseling session with a counselor

This counseling session is conducted to gauge your readiness for homeownership.  During the session, we will pull your credit report and develop a budget. The counseling session is a requirement and must be scheduled prior to the class.

3) Attend your scheduled one on one counseling session

All participants are required to bring in the required intake application and required documents listed on the intake packet cover page.  This intake packet will be either emailed to you or provided to you at the time of registration.

4) Attend the First Time Homebuyer’s Workshop in its entirety

The location of the class will be disclosed to you when you register for the class.  All participants must complete the class in its entirety to receive a letter of completion.  The letter of completion of the First Time Homebuyer’s class is valid for 2 years from the day of completion.
