This two-night course focuses on how to properly renovate a historic house in New Orleans. Good for first-timers or anyone who wishes to become more knowledgeable by learning from experienced renovators and local professionals; this course will provide attendees with an understanding of how to communicate and work with an architect and general contractor, best practices in historic renovations, financing a renovation, and how to close our a project.

March 21st & 28th
Each class will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at PRC headquarters, 923 Tchoupitoulas St.
Objective: How to properly renovate a historic house. Provide attendees an understanding of how to communicate and work with a general contractor and architect, best practices in historic renovations and building systems, hazard mitigation and financing the renovation.
Night One: An Architect, General Contractor, and Interior Designer
March 21st, 5:30pm-8pm
- Building design and when you need an architect and structural engineer (40 minutes) – Alec Adamick, Owner & Principal Architect, Adamick Architecture
- Working with a General Contractor: how to design a scope of work, questions to ask, setting a budget and approving a bid, payment process with a renovation loan, establishing a realistic project timeline (30 minutes) Will Alexander, Owner, Alexander Historic Renovations
- What role does an interior designer play? Finishes, Fixtures, Appliances- how to make educated choices without breaking the bank and the planet(20 minutes)Nomita Joshi-Gupta, Studio Principal, Nomita Joshi Interior Design

Night Two: Renovation Tips, Permits, and Inspections
March 28thth 5:30pm-8pm
- Securing the Building Envelope (30 minutes).- Bill Robinson, Owner, Train2Build
- When do you need a permit or to update your existing permit?(30 minutes) – Tammie Jackson, Director, Department of Safety and Permits
- Closing Our Your Renovation(30 minutes)– TBD
