Sustainable Tourism and New Orleans (POSTPONED)

Event Navigation

Between the Labor Day holiday and the uncertainty caused by Tropical Storm Gordon, this week seems super challenging for everyone. As a result, the PRC has decided to postpone our Sustainable Tourism screening to a future date. Stay tuned for a rescheduled date.
Did you miss globetrotting journalist Costas Christ’s talk on sustainable tourism at the Historic New Orleans Collection earlier this summer? Don’t worry, the Preservation Resource Center is screening a video of the lecture on Sept. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at its office, 923 Tchoupitoulas Street.
Christ discussed how the tenets of sustainable tourism — protection of cultural and natural heritage, social and economic well-being of local people and environmentally friendly practices — are changing the global travel industry, and how cities can position themselves to ensure tourism is first and foremost a benefit to residents.
The lecture, originally held in June, was organized by the Vieux Carré Property Owners, Residents and Associates; the Vieux Carré Commission Foundation; and The Historic New Orleans Collection as part of the biannual Jacob Haight Morrison and Mary Meek Morrison lecture series.
