Louisiana National Flood Insurance Program policyholders now have 120 days to file a proof-of-loss claim, doubling the standard 60 day period.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, which administers the program, recognized the need for an extension in the wake of the extensive flooding that devastated communities across Louisiana in early August.

According to a FEMA press release, the standard proof-of-loss claims packet used to document each applicant’s flood loss remains the same and should include:

  • Photos or video of your flood damage.
  • A comprehensive and itemized list of what was damaged.
  • Receipts, if possible, for your damaged items along with any other supporting documents that show the value of what you lost.

FEMA has also streamlined the applications process.

To apply, call 800-621-3362 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and select Option 2. If you use TTY, call 800-462-7585. If you use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 800-621-3362.
