WHO: Rebuilding Together New Orleans and New Orleans corporate citizens

WHEN: Friday and Saturday, October 3rd and 4th and Friday and Saturday, October 10th and 11th

WHAT: Rebuilding Together New Orleans has restored the homes of 115 low-income homeowners since Katrina, thanks to the support of dozens of business partners from around the country. More than 4,700 volunteers have contributed over $2.5 million worth of labor to help rebuild New Orleans. Now, we’re gearing up for another great Community Build Initiative in October, during which we plan to put hundreds of volunteers from dozens of local organizations to work revitalizing 5 New Orleans neighborhoods.

“For the past twenty years, our local corporate partners have been the key to revitalizing the housing stock in the city’s historic neighborhoods through the Rebuilding Together program (formerly ‘Christmas in October’),” says Kristin Gisleson-Palmer, Director of Rebuilding Together. “We’ve been able to continue our work thanks to the generous sponsorship of companies across the US, as well as committed volunteers who have come from near and far to help our beloved city.”

At last year’s Community Build Initiative (the first since Katrina), over 500 volunteers signed up. This year, almost 700 volunteers from 28 organizations have pledged their time.

For those who missed out on this year’s event but want to help renovate homes in low income communities, Rebuilding Together will be organizing a build for at least one weekend per month beginning in November. Opportunities exist for skilled and unskilled labor over the age of eighteen.
