The Preservation Resource Center’s Beams & Brews events, formerly called Renovator’s Happy Hours, offers attendees a sneak peek into construction projects around the city. Often granting the only access the public will have to a project, giving these events an exclusive edge and making them popular and well attended. Come sip brews while admiring the beams!

Venue

Beams & Brews highlights residential or commercial projects at any stage of construction as long as it is safe for public entry and the building is at least 50+ years old. Other considerations include time of year and calendar availability. Have a location you think would be great for a Beams & Brews event? Read through some of the FAQs below and email to Michelle Shoriak for more information.

FAQ’s

How many Beams & Brews are held a year?

Between 6 to 8 per year.

What time does the event run?

Our Beams & Brews run from 5:30pm-7:00pm with a short presentation by the project team beginning promptly at 5:45pm. After the presentation the venue will be opened up and the attendees will be allowed to tour the premises.

Are these guided tours?

No, for most venues the space is opened and attendees can wander at their own pace while PRC staff and volunteers monitor certain areas both for safety and to answer questions. Rarely are these events set up as a guided tour.

What day does Beams & Brews take place?

Beams & Brews are offered on weeknights only (Monday through Thursday).

Why aren’t Beams & Brews every month?

Due to climate and daylight savings, these events are only held in February, March, April, May, September, October, and November (months may vary based on weather and availability of air-conditioned/heated spaces). However, it is important to note the Beams & Brews is a rain or shine event.

What stage of construction does a project need to be in to be considered?

Beams & Brews will visit projects at any stage of construction as long as it is safe for public entry. This and an opening in the calendar have to line up just right in order to have the event take place!

How much are tickets?

Beams & Brews are included as a PRC membership benefit. Sign up as a member and get in free! Want to check your membership status? Contact Whiton Paine, Director of Development. Not a member? Tickets are $10. You can purchase tickets through our event page or at the door of the event.

What neighborhoods does Beams & Brews visit?

Any neighborhood can have a Beams & Brews event! The building itself should be 50+ years old.

Does Beams & Brews take place only in residential or commercial buildings?

Beams & Brews can take place in either residential or commercial buildings. The building should be 50+ years old.

Are the projects ADA accessible?

This answer is project specific: some are and some are not. Please contact Michelle Shoriak, to inquire about accessibility for a specific event.

Are kids allowed to attend Beams & Brews events?

Kids are allowed at the event under two conditions; a parent or legal guardian must sign the waiver on the child’s behalf and each child under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times (one child to one adult ratio).

What is the liability waiver?

When entering the building every attendee is required to sign the liability waiver. This waiver states the attendee holds harmless the PRC and project team from any damages that may result from personal injury on the site.

Are there bathrooms available?

Bathrooms are not guaranteed at Beams & Brews and are based on the stage of construction at the time of the event. This is usually addressed in the day-of informational email sent to ticket holders. Need to know sooner? Contact Michelle Shoriak.
