WHO: Over 50 local volunteers and Rebuilding Together New Orleans

WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, February 7th-8th, 9:00am-4:00pm

WHERE: 1803 S Dupre St., 4203 S Rocheblave St., 3231 Milan St., New Orleans, LA

WHAT: This weekend, February 7th-8th, over 50 New Orleanians will participate in Rebuilding Together New Orleans’ monthly local volunteer build. Held one weekend per month, the project is a response to the growing demand for local volunteer opportunities in New Orleans. “We started scheduling local events again two years after Katrina because we recognized that residents were eager to give back to their community and help each other return home to New Orleans,” said Camille Lopez, Assistant Director of RTNO. Work to be done on the three Broadmoor home includes exterior painting and scraping.

This month, groups include students from Tulane and LSU, employees of the Enterprise Corporation, as well as a handful of individual volunteers. Marcelle Boudreaux is leading a group of LSU students interested in preservation on their first volunteer build with RTNO. “We try to organize service opportunities for our members to gain hands-on experience while serving our communities,” she said. “Volunteering for RTNO fits perfectly into our mission!”

This month’s overwhelming response reflects the relative health of the city in that so many families have completed their own home renovations and are now ready to lend a helping hand to their neighbors. Future weekend dates include:

April 18th – 19th

May 9th – 10th

June 13th – 14th
