John Stirratt, bassist for WILCO, stopped by PRC projects in Holy Cross after the band’s top-billed performance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. WILCO has been one of PRC’s most consistent and generous supporters, from donating proceeds raised at a special concert in Chicago right after Katrina to donating to a celebrity auction with PRC as WILCO’s designated recipient. The official WILCO Web site links to prcno.org. Here’s what John Stirratt said about choosing PRC as a cause: “We wanted to back an established organization with a track record for rebuilding and it could only be the Preservation Resource Center.”

Stirratt is seen here visiting Mrs. Skidmore, 93 year old resident of the former home of Kid Sheik. Mrs. Skidmore’s home was renovated by the PRC and the National Trust as part of their “Jazz Houses” program, which seeks to preserve the homes of New Orleans’ jazz legends.
