Seahawks Fans Become Saints

At halftime during the NFL game between the Seattle Seahawks and the New Orleans Saints on October 14, Rebuilding Together was given a check for $53,000 to rebuild Ms. Aniece Gibbs’ home in Hollygrove. Along with the Seahawks, the local radio station KIRO 710 raised the money to kick off the Neighborhood to Neighborhood Campaign between the city of Seattle and New Orleans. An additional $11,000 dollars was raised through Mardi Gras bead sales at the game, an NFL online auction featuring a guitar donated by the Saints signed by Sean Payton, Reggie Bush, Drew Brees, and Marques Colston, and donations given by Seattle residents during the traveling tailgate party on the “Ron and Don Show” featured on KIRO 710 the week before the game.

Ron Upshaw and Don O’Neill of the “Ron and Don Show” share a connection with Ms. Gibbs: Hurricane Katrina devastated each one of their homes. Ron and Don had a show in New Orleans before the storm hit and are motivated to support Rebuilding Together’s cause by creating awareness in Seattle. They will have weekly updates on their show featuring the progress of Ms. Gibbs’ home until it is finished, and they plan to have a live show in New Orleans when she moves back. The Preservation Resource Center and Rebuilding Together sincerely thanks the city of Seattle for their support and for starting the Saints’ winning streak.
