Shotgun House Tour: 1317 N. Rendon St.

This shotgun double (1317-19 N. Rendon St.) has been renovated but still functions as two independent rental units. The property is owned by Linda and Malcolm Burns, who recently renovated this unit for their dear friend, Beth Parrott. The exterior of the home was painted to be bold and colorful and features a butter yellow exterior body with cream trim, turquoise shutters, and a K&B purple front door and screen. The colors were selected to play up the extensive millwork, cornices and vertical proportions of this quintessential New Orleans home. Beth’s collection of colorful art fits perfectly into the bright, updated space.

In the recent renovation, the kitchen was moved forward, updating the floorplan of the home with a combined living and dining space. The home still features two shotgun-style, walk-through bedrooms, which lead to a lovely rear courtyard with new Magnolia trees and a custom-built bamboo outdoor shower.

Linda and her friend Beth love their block. In the evening they sit on either of their porches with a glass of wine, looking across the street at the other porch, enjoying the neighborhood and neighbors walking by.

Join us for the Shotgun House Tour on April 22 and 23 to see this home and other fine examples of New Orleans’ iconic shotgun houses.
