The DDD recently launched a complimentary graffiti removal program for private property. Property owners in the boundaries of the Downtown Development District (Pontchartrain Expressway to Iberville Street and the Mississippi River to Claiborne Avenue) are eligible for free graffiti removal on the first floor of their buildings if the graffiti is visible from a public right of way.

The program works “in cooperation with our Clean Team partners contracted by Block by Block, who will pressure wash with specific graffiti removal chemicals or paint over the graffiti when needed with permission from private property owners,” the DDD said.

Property owners at the corner of Chartres and Canal streets took advantage of the program recently. A large portion of their Chartres Street façade was covered with graffiti. Because the owners had proactively completed the graffiti removal authorization waiver, the Clean Team provided a fresh coat of paint shortly after the graffiti was noticed.
