Situated in the heart of the Irish Channel, this Arts & Crafts–style Double Bay Camelback Shotgun residence has functioned as a two-family dwelling since its construction in the early twentieth century. In 2025, the current owners acquired the property and undertook a restoration aimed at preserving its historic architectural character. Original features, including windows, doors, trim, flooring, and fireplaces were carefully restored, while the structure was carefully converted into a single-family home with updated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
The project was realized through a collaborative effort between Alexander Historic Renovations and CULTIVO Architecture & Preservation, working in coordination with the city’s Historic District Landmarks Commission to ensure adherence to appropriate preservation guidelines.
As construction progressed, the discovery of historic materials, including cypress siding, cypress lumber, and even fire-damaged structural members, presented opportunities for thoughtful reuse throughout the project. These elements were carefully incorporated as accent features, reinforcing the home’s historic character. At every stage, the team prioritized the preservation and adaptive reuse of original fabric, supporting the broader goal of transforming the structure into a cohesive single-family residence while honoring its architectural legacy.
