On January 20, 2015, the Rault Center at 1111 Gravier Street was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Tragically, the 16 story hotel is best known for a fire in 1972 that resulted in the deaths of six people.

In the aftermath of the fatal fire, the state of Louisiana required all high-rise buildings to have sprinkler systems.

The building, which sat empty for a number of years, was purchased by a developer in February 2015 and is set to become the home of a new 185 hotel after a full redevelopment.
