Today New Orleans benefits from greater historic district protection than ever before!

New Orleans City Council voted unanimously to protect Uptown and Carrollton. Click here to see a map of the area.

Demolitions proposed to old homes in these boundaries must now seek demolition permission from Historic District Landmarks Commission. Additionally, what new construction may be proposed on Carrollton Avenue and St. Charles Avenue will be subject to design review for all exterior views visible from the public rights of way. (Note: the Tulane University and Loyola University frontages on St. Charles Avenue already exempt by an existing statute remain exempt/outside of district.)

PRC wishes to thank study committee volunteers, HDLC staff and congratulate PRC members and others who voiced their interest in this matter and worked toward this compromise.
