Curious About Traveling to Sicily with the PRC?
Join the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans and Project Por Amor for a free informational webinar to learn more about our immersive PRC Sicily Tour, taking place September 30–October 9, 2027.
During this session, you’ll get an inside look at this unforgettable journey through Sicily’s architecture, archaeology, food, wine, music, crafts and cultural traditions. PRC staff and our partners at Project Por Amor will walk through the itinerary, highlight some of the trip’s most memorable experiences, and answer your questions about registration, accommodations, logistics and what to expect.
From the vibrant streets of Palermo to the ancient temples of Agrigento, the historic island of Ortigia and the slopes of Mount Etna, this journey explores Sicily through the people, places and traditions that make the island so distinctive. Along the way, travelers will experience the island’s remarkable layers of history, from Arab-Norman architecture and ancient Greek and Roman sites to Baroque cities, historic estates and centuries-old craft traditions.
The itinerary is filled with opportunities to experience Sicily beyond its famous landmarks. Highlights include a private Baroque music concert and Sicilian street food brunch in Palermo, a visit to a fifth-generation family cheese farm, a conversation about Sicily’s Mafia and anti-Mafia movement in Corleone, a private tour of the Valley of the Temples with an archaeologist, and a visit to the Villa Romana del Casale to explore its extraordinary Roman mosaics.
You’ll also experience Sicily through its food and traditions, from olive oil and wine tastings to a cooking class with the grandmothers of Motta Camastra, where you’ll learn to make traditional Sicilian pasta while enjoying live folk music. In Catania, visit a family-run puppet workshop and attend a private performance of the traditional Opera dei Pupi. The journey concludes with a 4×4 excursion on Mount Etna followed by a wine experience featuring grapes grown in the volcano’s mineral-rich soils.
Throughout the trip, you’ll be accompanied by knowledgeable local guides and experts who bring Sicily’s history and culture to life, including archaeologists, architects, a volcanologist, historians and local artisans.
For more than 50 years, the Preservation Resource Center has worked to protect the places that make New Orleans special. Our travel programs offer a similar opportunity to explore the architecture, history and cultural traditions of remarkable places around the world while connecting with the people who know them best.
