NEW ORLEANS — Donors showed strong support for New Orleans’ historic places on GiveNOLA Day, contributing $37,387 from 205 donors to the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans.

The funds will support PRC’s work to preserve the architecture, neighborhoods, cemeteries and cultural identity that make New Orleans unlike anywhere else.

The campaign exceeded PRC’s $30,000 goal, reaching approximately 125% of its target.

“GiveNOLA donors made one thing clear on Tuesday: New Orleans’ historic places aren’t expendable,” said Kristin Gisleson Palmer, executive director of the Preservation Resource Center. “This support helps PRC protect the homes where families are trying to stay rooted, the cemeteries holding generations of memory, the neighborhood landmarks under pressure and the traditional crafts we need to care for them. New Orleans’ history is one of the reasons the entire world loves this city, but it doesn’t protect itself. It takes resources, training and people willing to do the work. Yesterday, our donors showed they believe that work matters.”

The support comes during a period of expanded work for PRC. In 2025, Save Our Cemeteries became part of PRC, strengthening the organization’s ability to protect New Orleans’ historic cemetery landscapes. PRC also continues to grow Bridge to Crafts Careers, a workforce development program created in partnership with the World Monuments Fund to train participants in hands-on preservation trades including masonry, ironwork and cemetery restoration.

The organization’s work also includes advocacy for threatened historic buildings, homeowner resources, preservation education and more than 140 preservation easements, most of them in New Orleans, helping ensure that significant historic buildings remain protected for future generations.

“Saving a historic building only lasts if we also protect the knowledge it takes to care for it,” Palmer said. “New Orleans needs masons, ironworkers, cemetery restoration specialists, informed homeowners and advocates who understand what’s at stake. GiveNOLA support helps PRC build that future, not just protect the past.”

Since 1974, PRC has worked to preserve New Orleans’ historic buildings and neighborhoods through restoration, advocacy, education, homeowner support and preservation easements. The organization has renovated more than 1,500 buildings and continues to advocate for the places that define the city’s character.
