It’ll be faster and easier to get a permit from the Historic District Landmarks Commission for some work starting Nov. 1.
The new HDLC Express Lane Team will focus on minor repairs and smaller projects, such as replacing roofs with Fortified roofing, installing solar panels, or repairing awnings and shutters.
A complete list of work eligible for HDLC Express Lane can be found on the HDLC’s website.
“The new HDLC Express Lane includes a responsive team of HDLC staffers who will offer pre-application consultation and application assistance to better support property owners, businesses, developers, architects, contractors and tradespeople with the HDLC review process,” the HDLC Express Lane website says.
After completed applications are submitted using HDLC Express Lane, permits, known as Certificates of Appropriateness, will be issued within one to three business days for eligible work.
To contact the HDLC Express Lane team, call (504) 658-7040 or email [email protected].
All HDLC applications must be submitted through the OneStopApp online application portal. A building permit from Safety and Permits may also be required for items that can be approved by the HDLC Express Lane team.
The PRC offers Navigating the HDLC, a free course designed to help property owners understand the HDLC application process and avoid the frustrations experienced by some applicants.
The next class will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 1601 Ursulines Ave. in Treme.
Advanced registration is required for this free in-person class and can be done here.
