Linda Burns is the fifth generation in her family to have lived in the 1300 block of North Rendon Street, one of many Faubourg St John blocks that feels uncharacteristically bucolic despite being in the city. The home sits on a double lot with an amazing pool and outdoor living space.

Linda and her husband Malcolm travel often and their grown children live around the world; however, New Orleans is always home base. Linda and all of her neighborhood friends have served as president of the neighborhood association at one time or another, and you can just feel her love for her home and neighborhood.

The Burns purchased the Eastlake single shotgun at 1320 N. Rendon St. in the 1970s knowing they could restore it and make it their own home. They added a camelback to the small home in the 1980s but maintained the façade laced with millwork as well as the interior details. A vestibule located at the side door (now in the kitchen) was removed; it had previously divided the space, and in its place, a stained glass window made by Linda’s father was hung in the doorframe. Linda says she loves all the natural wood inside the home, which was stripped and brought back to its original state as part of their renovation.

Linda surrounds herself with things that she has picked up through years of travels or sentimental gifts. Her favorite artwork includes paintings by her friend, artist Patricia McDonald Fowler, and photography by her brother-in-law, Ralph Burns, and by Bobby Wozniak.
