This year marks a major milestone for preservation in New Orleans: the 50th anniversary of the Historic District Landmarks Commission (HDLC), and we hope you’ll help us celebrate!
Since 1976, the HDLC has been one of New Orleans’ most important partners in protecting the architecture, neighborhoods, and sense of place that make our city unlike anywhere else. For five decades, the Commission has worked alongside residents, neighborhood organizations, property owners, architects, and developers to save countless historic buildings and thoughtfully guide change across the city. That work helps protect not only the character of our neighborhoods, but the historic building stock that is one of New Orleans’ greatest cultural and economic assets.
To celebrate this remarkable legacy, the Preservation Resource Center (PRC), Vieux Carré Property Owners, Residents, and Associates (VCPORA), and Louisiana Landmarks Society/Pitot House are coming together to host a 50th anniversary celebration in honor of the HDLC. We hope you’ll be part of this special opportunity to celebrate 50 years of protecting the places that make New Orleans, New Orleans, and to toast the residents, advocates, and public servants who have made that work possible.
