Designated Louisiana Main Street communities are receiving much-needed support for revitalization efforts through recent legislative appropriations. In fiscal year 2024-25, Technical Assistance grants totaling $450,000 were awarded to 11 communities, marking the first time in more than 10 years that Louisiana Main Street was able to offer this level of service. In fiscal year 2025-26, projects are underway in 12 communities, with additional grants to be awarded.
The Louisiana Legislature has provided communities with access to professional planning, technical assistance and implementation resources. This funding reflects a broader recognition that vibrant downtowns and commercial districts are essential economic engines, driving entrepreneurship, tourism and quality of place while contributing to the long-term resilience of Louisiana’s local economies. All projects must align with the Main Street Four Point Approach™ to support capacity building and specific community needs. The Four Points are Organization, Economic Vitality, Design and Promotion.

Investing dollars in Louisiana Main Street also provides a robust return on investment. For every $1 invested in the state program, $67 of new investment was generated back into historic downtowns and commercial corridors in fiscal year 2024-25. Additionally, small businesses report that their local Main Street organization is either “important” or “very important” to their business success, according to a 2024 Main Street America survey.
Main Street programs keep our communities strong by enhancing our tax base and creating better places for all citizens, with more than 800,000 people in the 38 designated communities statewide. Main Street builds a better future for Louisiana!
