Taking place April 22-23, the Spring Home Tour throws open the doors to eight gorgeous private homes in the Esplanade Ridge and Parkview National Register Historic District neighborhoods. Parkview is a quiet pocket of town nestled between Bayou St. John and City Park like a verdant, tropical maze, with streets that intersect at odd angles and hidden courts among old oaks. It’s filled with charming early 20th-century bungalows, late 19th-century shotguns, raised-basement homes and Spanish Revival-style houses.
Esplanade Ridge is one of the earliest-populated areas of New Orleans. Bayou St. John and the natural ridge of high ground that gives the area its name were important trading grounds for Native Americans. After European settlement, prominent New Orleanians built country manor houses along and near the bayou. Today, it remains a verdant, tight-knit and charming community, filled with activities both on and off the water.
In addition to the eight featured homes, the Spring Home Tour on April 23 also will include open houses at the historic Pitot House and Cabrini High School Chapel on Bayou St. John.
